If you think your child should be seen by a specialist, please call us.  We can refer you to a specialist we know and trust.  We discourage self referral because we believe this compromises good care.

Many insurance companies require patients to obtain a referral prior to being seen by a specialist. Please review with your insurance company the provisions and limitations associated with your policy.

If we have referred your child to a specialist, we generally ask families to make their own appointments. We are glad to assist if there are any problems.

Once the appointment is scheduled, please print and complete the referral form, and fax, mail, or deliver it to our office.  We need the information on the form in order to properly process the referral with your insurance company prior to the appointment.

Retroactive referrals are problematic. We will try to secure an authorization, however please understand that insurance companies vary on the way these requests are handled.

Families are ultimately responsible for any charges incurred as a result of having visited a specialist without having obtained prior authorization in the form of a referral.
